FAQ: Tell me about Concept 
ANSWER:
Concept Fertility Centre & Day Hospital is a private facility.
Our specification, was for a purpose designed property to enable the delivery of comprehensive gynaecology, fertility and assisted reproductive treatments in a central location.
We offer the most extensive range of treatment services in WA, including:

Located in the lovely suburb of Subiaco, just a 5 minute drive from Perth CBD, Concept has been a leading fertility provider of fertility and Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) since 1982; making us the the longest established IVF facility in Western Australia.

We offer both Nursing and Specialist services at Subiaco and Nursing Services in Leeming at Concept South
Concept has established Specialist outpatient clinics in Kalgoorlie and  regional pathology sub centres.
Our team of experts can offer you a wealth of experience, balanced with current advances in infertility management.

Concept Day Hospital is licensed by the Health Department of Western Australia to perform a range of operative procedures including:

FAQ: Why should I choose Concept?
ANSWER:
Choosing a clinic is a personal decision.
It is always important to find out as much as possible about a clinic before you start, including success rates.
Pregnancy rates can be affected by a number of factors.
The average age of female patients at Concept Fertility Centre in 2016 was 36, however 30% of our female patients were over 40 years of age.
Most of our programs have no upper age limit  to access  treatment although your Specialist will discuss with you what is feasible.
We offer the most extensive selection of treatment programs in Western Australia and interest free payment options.

FAQ: Is there a car park at Concept?
ANSWER:
Yes we have a small car park at the rear of the Centre, there are a limited number of spaces, including ACROD

There is also plenty of free on road parking around the Centre, on Nicholson Road, Derby Road and Excelsior Street
Please be mindful of the parking restrictions for each area which may vary between 1 and 3 hours


FAQ: Who does Concept treat?
ANSWER: 
At Concept we believe in treating you as an individual and our aim is to ensure your needs are our first priority. 

We treat couples, including same sex and single women, we assist individuals who are undertaking gender reassignment.

Whilst Concept does not have an upper age limit or age barrier to older women for our tailor made treatment services,  Concept's Bulk Bill Treatment Programs has both an age and weight eligibility criteria.

For gynaecology services we have Specialists who are experts in both general and complex women's reproductive health management.


FAQ: Who are the Specialist doctors at Concept ?
ANSWER: 
Our Specialist doctors are dedicated to finding a solution to your needs. You can find a list of our Specialists on our ABOUT US page.

Concept has a group of specialist affiliated gynaecologists. Whilst Concept does not employ these Gynaecologists, they all utilise the services available at Concept Fertility Centre and Concept Day Hospital.

Some of our Specialists are based here within the facility and others practice in their own private consulting rooms.

Our Specialists believe that their own approach to service delivery, enables them to have the best services available to them. They are dedicated to providing individualised treatment protocols, when managing their patient’s treatment cycle,  using the expert skills and services at Concept Fertility Centre.

FAQ: How do I make an appointment?
ANSWER: 
Your first step is to get a referral from your GP or regular gynaecologist to one of our Specialist doctors. 

Together with your Concept doctor, you can decide what is right for you, whether it is investigations, surgery, treatment or a combination.
 


FAQ: Why do I need a referral?
ANSWER: 
A valid referral from a GP is needed for you to be able to claim Medicare rebates for services received from your Specialist doctor and Concept Fertility Centre. 
Without an in-date referral you will NOT receive Medicare rebates.
Most referrals from a GP are valid for a period of not more than 12 months, it is important to make sure you always have a current and valid referral.
Specialist referrals, for example from another Gynaecologist, are only valid for 3 months.


FAQ:  What are the waiting times to see a Specialist doctor?
ANSWER: 
We know that when you are anxious it’s important to secure an appointment with an expert at the earliest opportunity.
The usual waiting time from enquiry to initial consultation is approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
Due to re-scheduling and cancellations it may be possible to see a Specialist within a few days of referral  

We will also try to offer you the soonest available appointment.
Our Specialist doctors are independent professionals who manage their own outpatient services.
The Practice Manager for each specialist can advise you of their waiting times.

FAQ: How much will my first appointment cost?

ANSWER: 
Our Specialist doctors are independent professionals who manage their own outpatient services.

The Practice Manager for each specialist can advise you of the fees payable for both new and follow up consultations and the related Medicare rebate benefits.

FAQ:  What questions should I ask at my first appointment?
ANSWER: 

You may already have a long list of questions to ask the Specialist at your first appointment, we've provided 10 of the most commonly asked questions here:

1) What tests and investigations will be performed to determine possible factors affecting my chances of conceiving a pregnancy?
2)  I/we already know that a specific condition is causing my/our infertility, is it likely to stay the same or get worse over time?
3) Which treatment is recommended first and why?
4) What are the success rates for patients like me/us?
5) What are the risks and side effects I/we should be prepared for?

FAQ:  What tests will I need?
ANSWER: 
Any tests will be dependent on your medical history and any test results from investigations completed by your GP or referring doctor.
Your Specialist doctor will decide what additional tests are needed. 


FAQ:  Can I have my investigation blood tests at Concept?
ANSWER: 
Most blood tests can be completed at Concept. 

If your Specialist requires specific tests which require independent laboratory processing then you will be provided with the appropriate pathology request form.
Blood tests requested by your Specialist Doctor can be done at:
Concept Fertility Centre in Subiaco
Service commences at 7:30 am Mondays to Saturdays
Service commences 8:00 am on Sundays and Public Holidays

Screening & treatment tracking bloods can be done at Concept South, Leeming
Mondays-Fridays before 10:00 am

You can also have these blood tests at one of the Australian Clinical Labs centres (incorporating St John of God Hospital and Perth Pathology) these are sub-centre collection points affiliated with Concept Fertility Centre.
If you have been provided with a pathology request form by your Specialist please present it when you attend for your blood tests.


FAQ:  Can I have a semen analysis at Concept?
ANSWER: 
Yes, Concept Fertility Centre Subiaco has a purpose designed Andrology laboratory for the processing of semen samples to assess sperm quality, cryopreservation (freezing) of sperm and the preparation of sperm samples for treatment purposes.

We have dedicated sample rooms, or you can choose to produce your sample at home and bring it to us for processing, please note that you still need to arrange an appointment even if you are bringing your sample from home.

FAQ: Can I store sperm at Concept?
ANSWER: 

Yes, you can store sperm at Concept Fertility Centre Subiaco.
We have a dedicated Laboratory to process samples and storage facility for long term cryopreservation (freezing) of your samples.

There are many circumstances for which sperm storage is recommended including:
 Before fertility treatment if you routinely work away from home

 Before vasectomy surgery (male sterilisation)
 Before chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment
 Before gender reassignment therapy 

It is necessary to have infectious disease screening (HIV, Hepatitis B & Hepatitis C blood tests) before storing your sperm, you can have these tests on the same day as your storage appointment, there are related charges for the blood tests.

You will be asked to consent to the storage of your sperm samples, this can be completed on the same day as your appointment and there are related charges for the cost of the freezing and storage.

FAQ:  I've had a vasectomy but now want to try for a baby, can Concept help ?
ANSWER: 

Yes, we have a Specialist who performs Surgical Sperm Recovery Surgery (Epididymal Aspiration). This involves hospital admission and a procedure aimed at recovering tissue from the testes which may contain sperm. 

Concept's purpose designed Andrology laboratory is skilled at processing these samples to find the sperm, cryopreservation (freezing) of sperm and the preparation of those sperm samples for later IVF with ICSI treatment purposes.

FAQ:  How much will my investigations and tests cost?
ANSWER: 
Depending on your medical history and availability of information from your referring GP the tests and investigations required will be ordered by your Specialist doctor.

They will decide what additional tests are needed and when and where to complete them, at this stage we can provide guidance on the estimated costs. More information can be found on Female Fertility Tests and Male Fertility Tests here.


FAQ:  If the Specialist doctor recommends treatment, what happens next?
ANSWER: 
When you have agreed a treatment plan with your Specialist doctor you will be asked to arrange a meeting with a Concept Nurse Coordinator and for some treatment types the Counsellor. 

We will guide you through the treatment process including payments, medications and consent forms and explain to you when to contact us when you feel ready to start your treatment.

FAQ:  Will my Specialist doctor be available at all times during my treatment?
ANSWER: 
Once you have chosen and developed a relationship with your Specialist they will be responsible for your care management.

We believe that continuity of care is important and provides reassurance and stability for patients at what can be an already emotional and stressful time.

However, your doctor cannot be available 365 days a year as they need holidays and to attend educational updates to keep them at the cutting edge of new clinical developments. Therefore our team of Specialists work very closely to ensure that there is always a trusted colleague to provide cover.

Concept doctors have an agreed theatre roster for egg collection procedures and they always endeavour to be available for their own patient’s embryo transfer procedure.


FAQ:  How much will treatment cost?

ANSWER: 
For detailed costs our Fee Schedule includes all Concept Fertility Centre treatment fees and the related Medicare rebates.

FAQ:  Do I have to pay my treatment fee charges up front?
ANSWER: 
Concept Fertility Centre is the only fertility centre in Western Australia with NO up front cost for Tailored Treatment package options. 

At Concept we have the most extensive range of treatment services and packages in Western Australia, including both tailored and Bulk Billed options.

Any payment we ask you for  at the start of your treatment cycle will be dependent on the particular treatment program option you have chosen and/or whether you have Private Health Insurance for in-hospital services


FAQ: How do I pay my Concept Fertility Centre invoices?
ANSWER: 

You will receive invoices for your treatment and any additional services not included in your treatment program. This might include additional blood tests, medication or ultrasound scans.

You can pay your accounts by debit or Visa / Mastercard credit card (not American Express), direct bank transfer, cash or cheque.

FAQ:  Do you offer a payment plan option to help me spread the cost?
ANSWER: 
Of course we do.

Our friendly Accounts Team are on hand to arrange an Interest Free Payment Plan for your out of pocket costs, tailored to suit your budget.

In addition Concept Fertility Centre has an excellent working relationship with SuperCare who are experts in assisting IVF patients to apply for the early release of Superannuation to pay for Tailored IVF Program expenses.

At Concept we understand that pregnancy may not be achieved quickly and that costs can quickly add up. We want you to focus on having a baby and not worrying about finance at what is already an emotional and stressful time.

FAQ:  Can I have TIC (Timed Intercourse treatment) at Concept?
ANSWER: 
Yes you can. Often your Specialist will recommend tracking your blood hormones and ultrasound scans to monitor the development of a follicle on your ovary.
If your Specialist has assessed that you would benefit from medications to assist your cycle you will be provided with a prescription.
When blood test results and ultra sound results suggest that you are at the appropriate time nearing ovulation, you will then be advised to have unprotected intercourse. 

  


FAQ:  How much will my TIC cycle cost?
ANSWER: 
Your TIC cycle costs will be billed as separate components, this may include any blood tests, ultra sound scans and medication services which have been provided to you during the course of your treatment.

FAQ:  Can I have AI (Artificial Insemination Treatment) at Concept?
ANSWER: 
Yes you can. 

Your Specialist will recommend tracking your blood hormones and ultrasound scans to monitor the development of a follicle on your ovary.
If your Specialist has assessed that you would benefit from medications to assist your cycle you will be provided with a prescription.
When blood test results and ultra sound results suggest that you are at the appropriate time nearing ovulation, you will then be advised of the most effective day for insemination.
If you are using fresh sperm, your partner will be asked to attend to provide the sample a couple of hours prior to the insemination time.
If you are using stored sperm, the laboratory will be instructed to thaw a vial of the sperm in preparation for your insemination.

We recommend partners who may not be available to produce fresh samples (example FIFO workers) to store sperm in advance of treatment.


FAQ:  Does Concept offer a Low Cost IVF Program?
ANSWER: 

Yes we do.

We offer both Bulk Billed IVF, IVF /ICSI & FET Treatment Programs however these are eligibility criteria assessed and you must have an assessment appointment with a Concept Specialist. 
With only your out of pocket cost to find, these offer some of the most cost effective IVF programs available in Perth.
The final cost of your treatment cycle will depend on what additional services you need, these are considered out of pocket or extras. 
If attend for blood tests at a Provider other than Concept Fertility Centre then you may  be liable for charges
Concept Bulk Bill Programs are designed to minimise your expenses whilst allowing you the benefit of structured cycle management with Specialist supervision.


FAQ:  When can I see a nurse?
ANSWER: 

We offer Nurse scheduled appointments at Concept Fertility Centre, Subiaco as an inclusion to all our treatment programs.

Our Nurses drop in clinics are available 7 days a week to answer your questions and provide advice and support
The drop in morning clinic runs between 07.30 am and 9:00 am Mondays to Saturdays and 8:00 am until 9:00 am on a Sunday.


The Coordination Team have treatment appointments, procedures and handover duties scheduled during their working day.
We therefore politely ask that if you need to see a Nurse Coordinator outside of the morning clinic session or do not have a scheduled treatment appointment, that you call (08) 9382 2388 to arrange a meeting time.


FAQ:  Is there a charge for Nurse Coordinator appointments?
ANSWER: 
Nurse drop in appointments are free at Concept.

We offer Nurse scheduled appointments at Concept Fertility Centre as an inclusion to all our treatment programs.

Our Nurses drop in clinics are available 7 days a week to answer your questions and provide advice and support and the drop in morning clinic runs between 07.30 am and 9:00 am Mondays to Saturdays and 8:00 am until 9:00 am on a Sunday.


FAQ:  Can my family and friends come to my appointments?
ANSWER: 

For those experiencing infertility it can be extremely isolating and lonely. We welcome a family member or friend to join you at your appointments. We  do however request that other than partners, your accompany persons are limited to no more than two others. // We encourage a calm relaxing environment for a family member or a friend to wait whilst you have your procedures, with complimentary refreshments. Our friendly reception team are on hand to direct them to nearby parks, shops and cafes. //  In addition we have a useful fact sheet to help family and friends understand how best to support you.


FAQ:  Is there a Pharmacy at Concept?
ANSWER: 
Yes we have a Pharmacy service at Concept Fertility Centre stocked with all the medications you will need for all our treatment programs. Our Pharmacist is available 6 mornings a week (Monday to Saturday) to answer your questions and provide advice and support with your medications.

Our Pharmacist is available from 7:30 am until 11:00 am Mondays to Saturdays.


FAQ:  Is there a counsellor I can see for support at Concept?
ANSWER: 
Yes, we have two dedicated counsellors who support patients before during and after treatment. 

In addition they provide specialist counselling services to couples and individuals seeking support with surrogacy, donor sperm, donor egg treatments and surrogacy.

At times of distress or following early pregnancy loss our counsellors are on hand to offer expert support. 

All patients undergoing IVF treatment are strongly encouraged to attend a counselling session at the commencement of their initial treatment cycle.

Counselling is available free of charge to Concept patients undertaking IVF and related treatments.

We do make a charge for specialist service counselling and non assisted reproductive treatment cycles, donor counselling and Skype sessions.


FAQ:  Is there anywhere else I can access support?
ANSWER: 
Access Australia is a consumer controlled independent non-profit charity, committed to providing whole life support for men and women who experience difficulties conceiving their families.

FAQ:  Where can I have my treatment monitoring blood tests?
ANSWER: 
We offer treatment tracking blood tests 7 days at week at Concept Fertility Centre in Subiaco.

Blood test sessions are available from 7:30 am Mondays to Saturdays and from 8:00 am on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Your blood test results are needed for the Nurse Coordinator / Specialist Doctor handover report at 1:00 pm. You must attend for your bloods at Subaiaco not later than 11:00 am to allow for processing and reporting the same day.

For patients in treatment we also offer blood tests 5 days at week at Concept South in  Leeming where blood tests are available from 7:30 am Mondays to Fridays this session closes at 10:00 am each morning. 

In addition Concept has sub-centre services at Australian Clinical Labs where you can attend for monitoring bloods.


FAQ:  Can I have my treatment monitoring ultrasound scans at Concept?
ANSWER: 
Concept Fertility Centre in Subiaco
We offer treatment tracking ultrasound scans 6 days at week
Monday to Saturday  
Please arrive between 7:30 am and 8:00 am for your ultrasound.
Ensure you  have an empty bladder and have signed in for your scan

Concept South in Leeming
We offer tracking ultrasound scans 5 days a week

Monday to Friday (not Public Holidays)
Please arrive between 7:30 am and 8:00 am for your ultrasound
Ensure you  have an empty bladder and have signed in for your scan


FAQ:  Can I have my early pregnancy ultrasound scan at Concept?
ANSWER: 

Pregnancy ultrasound scans are arranged when your Specialist Doctor instructs the Nurse Coordinator that your pregnancy hormone blood levels have increased sufficiently.

The Nurse Coordinator will advise you on booking arrangements for your pregnancy scan, as some Concept Specialist Doctors perform these scans in their own rooms. 


FAQ:  How can I prepare for pregnancy?
ANSWER: 
If you are preparing for a pregnancy speak with your GP or Gynaecologist. This will give you an opportunity to discuss any health concerns, update your medical history and immunisation history and arrange any pre-pregnancy immunisations.

In addition your GP or Gynaecologist can recommend the correct dose of folate (folic acid) supplement and assess any weight, diet and lifestyle factors which may affect conception.

FAQ:  How does body weight affect my fertility?
ANSWER: 
Being under or over the desired weight for both males and females can disrupt the hormonal balance that is necessary for normal egg and sperm production, leading to a 30% decline in the likelihood of a pregnancy and healthy birth.

Some of our Programs are accessible only with a BMI (Body Mass Index) within the healthy range, not under 19 and not above 35

In addition, for patient safety a strict criteria is adhered to for admissions to Concept Day Hospital when anaesthetic is required. You may be required to attend a formal assessment of suitability for anaesthetic if your BMI exceeds the criteria.

FAQ:  As a couple we have unexplained infertility, can Concept help us?
ANSWER:

FAQ:   I have a genetic condition, can treatment at Concept help me?
ANSWER: 

Yes,  Concept has treatment options involving both pre-implantation genetic screening and diagnosis of embryos.

FAQ:  I have had multiple miscarriages, can Concept help me?
ANSWER: 
Yes, we can provide support in a number of ways.

Our Gynaecologists can  initiate clinical investigations which may reveal why your miscarriages have occurred.

Concept provides scientific assessment  services, to screen embryos for chromosome abnormalities and offers treatment programmes including embryo screening and diagnosis.

Concept Counselors are available for emotional support and guidance, call us to arrange an appointment.


FAQ:   I have fibroids, can Concept help me?
ANSWER: 

Your first step is to get a referral from your GP or regular gynaecologist to one of our Specialist doctors.
Together with your Concept doctor, you can decide what is right for you, whether it is medical treatment or surgery or a combination.


FAQ:   I have endometriosis, can Concept help me?
ANSWER:

FAQ:   I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), can Concept help me?
ANSWER: 

Yes we can

FAQ:  I have cancer, can Concept help me preserve my fertility?
ANSWER: 
Yes, we have options for preserving fertility when you are faced with cancer .

We understand that it is essential to act quickly to find out what might be appropriate for you.

FAQ:  What happens to my stored sperm samples / eggs / embryos if I die?
ANSWER: 
Current Regulatory Tissue Authority  legislation in Western Australia does not allow the posthumous use of sperm or eggs. In the case of embryos, posthumous use is dependent on the consent given at the time of storage.
